281st Meeting of Burbach Lodge

30th-Anniversary

The Brethren of Burbach Lodge had reason to celebrate at the 281st meeting held in March.  This meeting marked the 40th anniversary of the consecration of the Lodge.  Founding member and the first Master of the Lodge W. Bro. Allison Gibson-Leitch, who recently received his 50 year certificate regularly attends the lodge, sent his sincere wishes to those present.

During the meeting an initiation ceremony was conducted for Bro. Thompson (the initiate), who  found our Lodge through the website, and after making contact via the site, and learning more about Masonry asked if he could join the Lodge.

W. Bro. Alan James also celebrates 40 years in Masonry this coming April, being the first candidate to be initiated into Burbach Lodge in that first year.

Worshipful Master Chris Blunt requested a photograph of the Brethren be taken at the end of the meeting to commemorate the anniversary.  During the festive board, Chris was joined in cutting a celebration cake by W. Bro. Philip Briggs and W. Bro. Glyn Hart who were Masters at 30 and 20 years, respectfully, as well as W. Bro Alan James.

Lodge Sunday Lunch

Toys-On-The-Table-Cheque-Presentation

The Lodge held a very successful Sunday Lunch on Sunday November 3rd at the Green Rooms which was attended by 121 Members, their families and friends. Everyone enjoyed a good meal in great company and the raffle held during the afternoon raised a magnificent sum of £525.00. During the proceedings, our Master, Paul Long presented a cheque for this amount to Michaela Staley on behalf of “Toys on the Table”. This charity provides toys at Christmas for less fortunate children who otherwise would not have such at Christmas time.

Garden Party 2015

On a glorious sunny afternoon on Sunday 8th August 2015 over 70 lodge members, their families and friends from Burbach Lodge No.8699, which meets in at the Masonic Hall, Hinckley, enjoyed a garden party in the grounds of Bro. Steve Iliffe’s Burbage house.

Entertainment during the afternoon was provided by Dean Thomas, the former Hinckley United manager, who performed many favourites which were well appreciated by all. Games were provided for the children and a delicious buffet, prepared by Burbach member, Bro. Jonathan Nichols went down very well, especially as it was accompanied by liquid refreshments served by the Senior Steward Bro. Nick Sherwin.

In addition to being an afternoon enjoyed by all, the event and raffle raised over £1,200 which will go towards the Master’s charity fund which will support the Air Ambulance Service and the Rainbows Hospice for children and young people which is based in Loughborough.

The Master of the Lodge, Chris, expressed his thanks to all who had attended and given their support for these two worthwhile charities and also expressed his gratitude to Steve, who was only initiated into Freemasonry this earlier this year, for the use of his facilities.

Bavarian Evening

The Lodge held a “Bavarian Oompah” evening at the Green Rooms at the beginning of February this year and this event proved a great night for the members, their families and guests who attended and indeed took an active part in the proceedings. The music and particuarly the lead singer, who in common with the other band members, were dressed for the part, kept all well entertained.

A high level of audience participation meant that all attending were constantly, jumping up and down, raising their glasses and joining in with the choruses. Some “lucky” members of the audience became much more involved when they were “invited” to join the band and either ended up blowing down a brass instrument or demonstrating their skills in yodelling!

A typical Bavarian meal of sausages, potato and cabbage followed by strudel was served and most managed to get to the bar on the odd occaision to replenish their glasses in order to moisten their tonsils! Overall a great night much enjoyed by all. A small selection of photographs from the evening are now available on the Photo Gallery pages of this web site, take a look now!

Leicestershire & Rutland Province 2012 Festival

The 2012 Festival is the Province’s Charity raising funds for the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution. The target figure of £1.5 million is close to being met and currently £1.3 million has been collected. The Festival culminates at the Festival Dinner at the Walkers Stadium in Leicester on May 19th 2012.

As part of the Festival fund-raising effort a “Classic Cars Dash” was arranged and the then Provincial Grand Secretary V.W.Bro. David Hagger arrived at Hinckley Masonic Hall in an MG driven by W. Bro. Peter Green closely followed by a Bentley saloon. Members of the Hinckley Lodges were on hand to greet the visitors and after a few drinks they were waived off on the second leg of their journey to Ashby-de-la-Zouch whilst the Hinckley Members went out to enjoy a very sociable lunch together.

Burbach Lodge donates to local scout group

Burbach Lodge donate £125 to 1st Britannia Scouts Burbage Joseph, the son of Worshipful Brother Chris Blunt, recently presented a cheque for £125 to 1st Britannia Scouts on behalf of Burbach Lodge.  Chris, the current Master of Burbach Lodge had learnt that the local Scouts in Burbage were in much need of new camping gear and sports equipment and had set about raising funds through their own activities.

Well knowing that Scouting has many parallels with the principles of Freemasonry, being those of brotherhood and service, Chris decided to help and donated the proceeds of a Lodge festive board raffle.

Cub leader Nicola who had raised significant funds herself by completing a Wolf run was delighted to be presented with the cheque saying that the money would be put to good use, and expressed her thanks to the Brethren of Burbach Lodge.

Presentation to the Peter le Marchant Charity

Worshipful Brother John Pinkstone, Master of the Lodge in 2008-09 is pictured presenting a cheque for £500.00 to Mr Charles Grace, Managing Director of the Peter le Marchant Trust, at their office on the Grand Union Canal in Loughborough during March 2011. The money was part of the funds raised from charity collections during Bro. John’s year as Master of Burbach Lodge.

The Trust organises canal trips for the disabled and handicapped and provides three fully equipped canal boats which cater for both carers and patients. One boat is used for day trips, one for trips of up to four days and the other can be hired for self-catering family holidays. The Trust is supported solely from donations and crewed by volunteers.

Our photograph shows the donation being presented to Mr Grace by: W. Bro. John Pinkstone together with Bro. Maurice Jones who was the Senior Steward during the year.
